Turns out just months later his body is rejecting the camera, and has since had to remove it. Maybe next time he’ll just wear a hat with a camera built in it… jus sayin.

CES 2011 round up, and this caught my eye.

Our good friend Ted showing off the new $6K RED wonder… Or is it? Check out this video as he explains what it is, and why it’s so special. (I particularly love the part where he says quickly that the batteries last about an hour.) All in all it looks like a pretty hefty piece of tech for the price.

Check out the rest of CES here>>>>

I think every photog is writing about this today so I’ll make it brief. The best slide and movie film in history is now officially retired. Kodachrome: 1935-2010. Another sign film is disappearing. I have mixed feelings about it all. I’ll hold onto film for as long as I can, but let’s face it Digital is here to stay, and if you don’t adapt in this market you get passed by (I mean run over). So, I’ll continue to use both until film is really dead. It amazes me though- no matter how good digital gets WE always like to degrade the quality of our images, and use programs like the ever-ridiculously-popular Hipstamatic.

To that end, enjoy shooting with whatever you shoot with… whether it’s film or digital. Sometimes we get so caught up with the latest and greatest gadget that we forget why we’re shooting in the first place.

It’s so hard to keep up with the “digital revolution.” There are so many high tech HD options on the market. I try to keep up, but it’s near impossible. Yesterday it was RED, and the day before it was Canon, but today it’s ARRI’s new Super HD camera the Alexa. (Now, don’t get me wrong Canon and RED have their place, (I’m not a hater) but it just so happens the flavor of the month is Alexa) I’m prepping a job down here at CSC in Ft. Lauderdale. At first glance the camera looks and feels familiar. If you are use to the already intuitive nature of ARRI cameras there isn’t much of a learning curve. The most impressive feature to me was being able to shoot 4:4:4 1080/24p Apple Pro Res via Sony SxS media. Unlike the RED there is NO transcoding to be done. That’s huge! Not to mention ARRI claims it has 14 stops of latitude with an 800 native ISO… (so basically grab a few light bulbs and go shoot a movie). That’s the quick and dirty. Go get your hands on one!

Check out the specs here.

Every time I get a chance to post something on my blog I get pulled away to change a diaper, or am catching up on sleep. YES, you guessed it we had our baby girl on September 24th. Her name is Iris Mackenzie. She is perfect. She is beautiful. Parenthood is quite the adventure, and it’s an honor to be apart of this great club!

The last 6 weeks have felt like 6 months, and I’m just now starting to get back into a groove. I had my first job (since Iris was born) last week. It felt so good to get back in the saddle. I will say I feel a little bit behind. There are so many things I want to accomplish before the years end- an updated website, blog, resume, and reel to name just a few.

…. and GO!!

I just wrapped up principal photography on Super Death Kill. It was quite the adventure! It was so good for me (and the rest of the cast and crew) to experience what it takes to see a project from its inception to its completion. For the type of genre it is, and the budget (none) we had I think it turned out great! We are already getting tons of positive write ups regarding the film. I keep hearing that it looks so good, and that’s encouraging being that it’s my very first film as the director of photography. I am excited to see what film festivals it gets accepted to, and what the future has in store for this little horror movie that could.

We seek out compelling projects to get involved with. Summit Church contacted us with an idea for an upcoming campaign they call “summit connect.” We took their ideas and ours and made a fun sandwich sure to satisfy. It’s both compelling, and fun to watch.

Here are a few production stills from the shoot. I’ll post the completed video soon.
